Description
The Hacienda Baru is one of the oldest ecolodges in Costa Rica. It is still going strong as is Jack Ewing, the owner of the lodge and one of the most important people for conservation on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Over the course of a few decades, Jack is finally seeing several animal and monkey species repopulate the region as reforested areas grow back up. Most of the trails at Baru pass through such reforested lands and are very good for seeing monkeys, peccaries, and other rain
forest wildlife. After a hot, rain forest hike (with sharp-eyed local guide if needed), a dip in the pool back at the lodge is always welcome. Jack often enjoys relating his stories as a conservation pioneer to guests but if he can't be found, you can read about his experiences in his book, "Monkeys are Made of Chocolate".
