Description
The La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica is one of the oldest and most famous centers for neotropical research. A great deal of what we know about rainforests has come from studies carried out in the lowland forests of La Selva. The facilities are excellent for research as well as seeing the rainforest and include a library and concrete trails in some areas of the reserve. Rainforest wildlife is easily seen and this place is a must for birders visiting Costa Rica. Such popularity though has
required limitations being set on the number of visitors roaming the trails of the station at any given time. Therefore, unless you stay overnight at the station (easy enough if they have room and you have cash), you have to sign up for one of their short guided tours. This is also easy to do via their website and is well worth it as the guides are well trained at finding animals and educating guests about the rain forest.
